JK Grooves Guitar & Amp Works started in New Orleans, LA in 2017 and moved to Austin in 2024. I studied all aspects of guitar repair under John Levan at Guitar Services Workshop in Nashville, TN. I studied tube amplifier repair under Gerald Weber of Kendrick Amplifiers from Kempner, TX. Having performed hundreds of guitar and amp repairs, mods and restorations at my shop in New Orleans, I look forward to bringing my skills and experience to Austin.
From tonewoods to capacitors, I am fascinated by all the factors that contribute to great tone and have dedicated my career to understanding the physics of these components. Applying this knowledge to servicing, repairing, or modifying your instrument or amplifier to meet your personal tone and feel is the main goal in my shop. I believe that vintage instruments sound the best and do my best to maintain their originality wherever it suits its playability and performance. When I do replace parts or components, I use only high quality parts that optimize performance, tone and add value to your instrument and amp.
John Krupa was born in Torrington, CT and began his music life at an early age in the underground metal and punk scenes of the 1980’s and 90’s. He played in bands, published fanzines and ran DIY record labels. After spending about ten years working in marine biology and aquarium maintenance in the early 2000’s, him obsession for rock’n’roll took over once again. Forever digging deeper to the roots of him musical influences (rock’n’roll, blues, soul, funk) and mechanics of rich tone, he began to study guitar maintenance, luthiery and tube amp circuitry. Continually building upon this knowledge, he applies it to his personal playing and his repair work.
